She’s 19, got married at six months. She’ll be able to get a whole lot more and it’s has really cute and nice things. Is it wrong?

a new mom? i dont think so, but she might. opt for a wal-mart card

I like resale shops, 1/2 price books, and garage sales but…every person is different. Does she ever buy slightly used items? If so, then I think your gift would be great.

Maybe, unless you know for a fact she shops there or will. We buy a ton of stuff at consignment shops for our son, who is 2. Most of the stuff still has the original tags on it! Just put in the card that she can probably get more items for less and since they grow out of it so quickly, she can save money. I’m sure if she knew your intentions were good, it would be fine. Perhaps in casual conversation you can mention “you know someone” who goes there and saves a lot, and see her response. Some first time mom’s want new, special things for their babies.

It’s not tacky at all. It is a useful gift. She can find many items in a resale shop at reasonalble prices.

What is tacky is when people buy usless crap, like stuffed animals.

this depends entirely on the mom … does she ever shop 2nd hand? if so it should be fine…
however, some people refuse to for personal reason (fear of hygeine problems, or pride..)

are you KIDDING! i wish people did that for me! baby clothes are so friggin expensive and they DONT last long.. AT ALL! you can sometimes find BRAND NEW stuff there! and you can take them back and get new stuff! i think its a GREAT idea! i got a lot of gift cards but think about it.. how far does a $50 gft card go at like baies r us or even walmart? not very far these days! you can always wait until after the shower if you think it might embarass her. and tell her that.. you know?

When one of my friends told me she didn’t have a clue as to what to get me for my baby shower, I told her, “Get me a gift card for the kid’s resale boutique by the grocery store.” She asked why. I told her “Well, let’s say you get me a gift card to wal-mart for $25, I can get maybe 3 outfits. For $25 at the resale boutique, I am able to buy twice that, so your gift will a longer way!” But if your friend does not shop second-hand, do not get it, just get her a Babies R Us or something. She may be offended, and you know how moody pregnant women can be LOL!

Any gift should be appreciated..no matter where to. Baby clothes are expensive. I went to Kohl’s yesterday and spent $85.00 on four outfits for my 15 month old. That is a good chunk of change for baby clothes that she will only be in for a couple of months, nothing fancy, little summer shorts and tees and a sundress. People on a really tight budget would definatly appreciate it, then there are some that would frown upon it. I say..do this….get her the certificate and also get her a nice inexpensive toy, a cute blanket..walmart has some really cute ones for like $5 or pack of bottles…maybe a small pack of diapers…just something small that would go with the certificate. Something new and the certificate for the second hand store. Wrap them up cute and there is nothing wrong with that at all. Being a mother, if there is a nice used clothing store with reasonable prices I would definatly do that for kids up to school age.
