Probably the bare minimum until they are in highschool, then I would make them get a job and buy there own but help out too, you might harm your childs social life if they dont fit in I’ve seen it happen.

I am only 21 years old and I have an 18 month old son. I bring home about 1500.00 a month and spend like 50 dollars a month on clothes for him. That is not alot but, you should find that your family will help ALOT in that dept. The grandparents go into stores and see things he “just HAS to have” and before youknow it, he has more clothes than you do!

There isn’t a set amount, it’s what you can comfortably afford. How old are your children? When I was in grade school we had 2-3 pairs of pants and a few more that that shirts, and we also got alot of that from garage sales. Once in highschool of course we wanted name brands so my mom had an idea of what a pair of pants should cost and at that time it was about 25-30 dollars. Of course I wanted the rediculous name brand 60-80 dollar pair so I had to work for the blance of what I wanted. That made me very responsible and take good care of my clothes even now

I bought most of my baby’s clothes at garage sales. I have enough stuff to last her until 12 months. I bet we spent nearly $100 for all the stuff we have. We don’t make very much money so I have to find deals where I can. I still need a few more winter pieces…I buy them at Target. The Target brand Circo (I think that’s right) has pants and shirts for $3.99 each and I love them. I don’t buy clothes every month…so I’m not sure of the price. It’s just best to stock up when you can. They go through everything so fast.

My husband makes a little over $40,000 a year. We have one daughter, and we generally spend maybe $400-$500 a year on clothes for her, not really all that much if you think about it. As the weather changes (I live in New England) we go shopping. For instance I just did her Fall/Winter shopping… and then in spring I do Spring/Summer shopping. I usually bring about $200 with me. And as she grows out of things or things get ruined, I spend maybe another $100 through out the year. This includes shoes as well.

I don’t see how anyone can set a fixed ammount - it depends on what they need (as opposed to what they *want*).

I’m currently pregnant with my first child so I can’t really answer as being a mom. But I can tell you how much my parents spent on me when I was growing up. Every August we would go school shopping and I would get about $100 to get my school clothes. Once I was older than 11 I worked so if I wanted more than I needed to use my own money. I’m not sure how much they spent when I was little and growing so quickly. My parents didn’t have a lot of money so I am sure they went to garage sales and second hand shops.

I spend zero dollars on clothing for my kids. All the stuff they wear is hand me downs from cousins and friends. My kids are ages 1 month, 2 yrs, 3yrs and 5yrs. By the time they become teenagers they can get a paper route or something and pay for their own clothes, otherwise I would shop at Plato’s Closet or a thrift store.

2-4% of my monthly income is spent on childrens clothing. Sorry, I don’t feel comfortable giving you my income levels… but I did the math just for you!!

Keep in mind when you are thinking about clothing budget… that they get a lot of hand-me-downs, they get clothing for Christmas and birthdays… and just random gifts from Grandparents that love to spoil their grandbabies. Also if you have a baby shower that will help a TON with the first year too.
