How did women sit wearing hoop skirts?

Whatever asked:

Back in the “good old days”, women used to wear hoop skirts when they got dressed up. Help me understand how they were able to sit down, in a chair when they had all of those metal hoops under their dress?
Happywjc: LMAO! High chairs, I’ll keep that in mind. Way before my time too!
